Day 9 – Asylum Hybrid – Power Legs

Glad to give the upper body a rest today. Today’s workout seemed like it flew by. Today’s been one of those blah days. Haven’t been able to get a good night’s rest last few days. I figured with Asylum, I should be sleeping like a baby.

Like all things, today shall pass.

Juicing In The Asylum

15 May

Last night I watch Fat Sick and Nearly Dead for inspiration and was truly moved by the transformations from people that wanted to break free from processed foods and medications.  When you hit rock bottom, the only way is to go up. Which is the easy part because you have direction but the process is the hardest part. Many want result now without taking inconsideration the years that people abused their bodies.

Phil Staples was a cheeseburger away from a fatal heart attack and started small with a 10 day juice cleanse and saw immediate improvement. A 10 day juice cleanse became a 30 day then a 60 day juice cleanse that not only changed his life but inspired others around him. Bravo.

It’s day 4 of my 7-day juice cleanse and I can say my body has adapted to my juice diet. I do feel energized and no longer feel like I’m going to die from starvation. I didn’t think I would have enough energy to complete intense workout from Insanity The Asylum but I’ve proved myself wrong. I’ve lost 5.4 pounds in 4 days. Normally that would take me 3 weeks to lose. Crazy.

Asylum 2 – Day 24 – Power Legs + Ab Shredder
Yep that 5 minutes of pulsing at the end always gets me too. Ab Shredder is real work especially that forearm plank walk and knee tuck. Another back to back workout scratched off the list.

Asylum 2 – Day 17 – Power Legs and Ab Shredder

8 May

Today has been the warmest all year so it really got my garage all toasted for my workout. When I was done, it looked like I took a shower in my clothes. It was my first time doing a double workout with Ab Shredder at the end. I did a back to back workout. Ab Shredder is definitely an awesome finisher. It’s only 15 minutes long but I needed multiple breaks. My core is my biggest weakness. This is an excellent workout to do on Relief/Off-Day Stretch/Rest Days.

Asylum 2 – Day 10 – Power Legs

1 May

With my second go around of Power Legs, I believe Vertical Plyo from Asylum 1 is more challenging. The last 5 minutes of Power Legs with the burn out segment is tough where you pulse out with a dumbbell. It brought me flashbacks to Insanity’s Core Power and Resistance hold and pulsating it out.

I had some chicken lasagna with cheesecake at Olive Garden yesterday for lunch. I’ve been good at sticking to an 80% paleo diet but figured with my cardio workouts, it would be OK to eat some pasta and cake for carbs to refuel. For the rest of the day, I just juiced and ate a couple spoonfuls of cashew butter when I got hungry. I didn’t spike up my weight up much this morning and I’m back to my pre Olive Garden weight after today’s workout. I’m going to juice it out for the rest of the day and hoping to shed another pound by next morning.

Asylum 2 – Day 3 – Power Legs

24 Apr

Yesterday’s Upper Elite workout left me tired and sore this morning. Before my workouts, I’ve been experimenting with taking half a teaspoon of ashwagandha in the morning with a cup of water for sustained energy throughout the day. Ashwagandha taste like dirt and doesn’t mix well with water. I was glad my new juicer arrived last night. I made an apple, carrot, celery, grape, lemon and kale juice to mix with the ashwagandha this morning and I couldn’t taste the ashwagandha. The body can’t digest fiber and it’s a good idea to give the digestive system a rest. Juicing allows to extract the nutrients and chew out the fiber allowing the juice to be complete absorbed by the body at once. It’s only been my second day using ashwagandha to know if it’s working or all in my head.

I was glad to see no upper body work today with the focus of leg work. I’m a year round cyclist, so I can tolerate today’s workout. Seems like Shaun T’s got a “blow out” segment in each workout to make sure you have nothing left in the tank at the very end. Glad to see the kettlebell swing incorporated into this workout albeit done with a dumbbell. I was able to bring out my kettlebell during that segment.

I’ve been keeping my diet clean and glad to see my weight dip to the high 170’s pounds this morning. I haven’t been feeling tired but I now I’m eating at a caloric deficit and moving more. I’ve been drinking my vegetables and fruits, and eating my protein.
